... when a guy that was behind me in a massive L200 4x4 covered in animal (the surfer brand) stickers,
mounts the kerb to my left so hes along side me as i wait at some traffic lights, and motions for me to wind down my window.
i lent across to the passenger window and wound it down he then asks me if its for sale.

now that in itself isnt odd ive had my mini about a year and its happened several times. i usually say no chance its not just my car but also a hobby.

the last time someone asked me if it was for sale (about a month ago) my brother was with me when i said the above, (hes not into minis and doesnt understand why i spend so much time, effort and money on mine), my brother then said if this happens again just say its worth a stupid amount and see what they say.

so today when the above happened i said it was worth at LEAST 3k, now my cars nothing special just a 94sprite with a MG metro engine with a stage 1kit, and i stereo. however it is solid with very little rust, i dont think its worth a great deal at all mind as its not a special mini.

anyway the chap asked for my number, (i gave him my mobile one) and he said hed be in touch.
other than the fact that this is both my first car and mini, so its a little special theres no other reason not to sell it i only paid 1600 for it.
i never thought i would but im tempted, i could get another nicer one.
i really dont no now :withstupid:
what do others think?

I sold my red one at an inflated price to 'trade up' to a nicer one with less rust. I'm not the most sentimental person in the world, and it was a good decision. I didn't have the money to chuck at a full restoration so it made sense to buy a more solid one.

well mines not really got anything wrong with it, other than a new water pump which i need to put in.
its all the little things that i want to do, just to make it mine and a little different.

im in two minds, sell whats a decent car and start again on another one, or stick with it.

if it means your doubling your money if you sell, and your not sentimental towards it, id say go for it! you could pick up another one easily for half the price, then you have £1500 to customise it to how you want it!

ive spent a fair bit on it like i said its got the stage 1, ipod specific stereo, new front end.
and various other little things which add up.
i reckon 3k is a small amount more than the total ive spent on it.

Ok so say you sold it for 3K, then you went out and bought another mini that looked alot better. But after you had bought it you discovered it had been bodged, and was full of filler underneath the nice shiny paint? If you have a good, solid car then why sell it now if you would only go and buy another Mini anyway? At least you know the one you have now is solid.

i would say yes to the bloke.
but...
look around first for a good solid mini.
make him wait until you find a better replacement, if you do. then sell it to him.

thats what i would do. at the end of the day iot is your car so dont let him pressure you into selling it.

mini man dan - thats what i was getting at, like i said mines really solid and has for the most part been very reliable.

its just "extras" which i want/need now, like some shine revos, but most of this stuff is cosmetic and none essential and can therefore be done slowly over time.

has anyone else had serious offers at the most random of times? like i said i was waiting at some lights when he mounted the curb.

I think if your Mini is just about how you want it, then keep it. Work out exactly how much you've spent on it already, as it may work out that it owes you about £3K anyway (new front end, stage 1 etc)

I personally think if you've got a nice solid Mini then stick with it, there are far too many out there that have been bodged :withstupid:

+1

Its probably worth more to you as it stands than the 3K... If its what you want, and your happy with it, I'd keep it - you'd never lose your £1600 if its how you say it is.
