I have an oil leak on a newly rebuilt and installed engine, I have located it to the oil gallery plug on the n/s of the engine just above the timing cover. These plugs are brand new and installed by myself.
I have got the radiator off and have been lightly tapping the plug with a bar to try and improve the seal to the block, however it still leaks when pressure is increased.
I will continue with this method a little more however I am wondering if anyone can suggest anything I can apply to where the oil is seeping to seal it?
I have contemplated replacing it, but that is the last resort. If I decide to replace it, can I get the pulley off without raising that side of the engine?
Engine is a 1275 A+.

If it's leaking now - it may fall out tomorrow = ruined engine......... Fit a new one.

Ok, so if I was to fit a new one, can you answer my question regarding the pulley?

Yes -it will come off - but you need rad and engine mount bracket out of the way first. You may want to consider fitting a 'proper' plug - ie tapping a thread in the hole and screwing in a plug that won't leak or fall out!

So the n/s engine mount needs to be removed and engine supported?
Is there any certain way to remove that plug without dropping it into the engine?

Can anyone recommend a sealant that could be used to apply to the seal around the plug?
Or does anyone know of a pipe expander that could fit in the plug and expand it to tighten the seal?

Sorry - no idea - it's because of the risk of it coming loose - I never touch the dratted things! But yes - the mounting bracket would need removing - easy enough - just the two long bolts - and the engine mount bolts through the subby of course.
