The first problem is that i have an oil leak, am I correct in thinking this is the gear linkage oil seal?

I have also noticed that there is oil on the the sump, could this indicate that the problem is higher up and is driping down i.e. rocker cover gasket.

My other problem is that i cannot remove my front grill, i have undone the screws along the top and sides but the bottom seems to be rivited on is this normal or are there hidden screws?

Thanks for any help
Rob

Yes that is the gear selector rod oil seal. Oil on the sump eh!!!! could be coming from anywhere to be honest, might even be due to the selector rod seal. The grill should not have any other screws other than the ones you have mentioned, but it cant be that hard to tell where its still fixed if you have removed the above screws.

judging by the picture there id say your driveshaft oil seal is on its way out. youve got no oil dribling down the back of the gearbox but the bit in the picture below the pot looks wet with oil.

clean the underside of you engine and when it leaks again you should be able to see where it's coming from

have you removed the side pieces from your grill ?

Best to give it a good clean, then get under to see where the oil is coming from. as i said it could be almost anywhere, this is the minis favorite game. Spot the oil leak.

For the price of a new gear selctor oil seal repair kit from minispares its not worth contenplating, ch£ap, easy to fit and peace of mind.

And i would have to agree with mini mad daps, the very left side of the bottom of the case is showing oil residue.

If i where you id give it a run around, get the engine hot hot hot so the oil thins and an old sheet of cardboard under the engine. Come back in an hour and you may get your answer!
