Sprite 1275cc

Tried to swap out my fan belt other day as a prevetative measure as do not know how long it been on there. In end couldnt get it off not got that notch in
fan shroud. Anyway i put old back on and tensioned up as per haynes which says 13mm deflection by this is it as in pdf sketch attached?
meaning 13mm overall so 6.5 mm back and forward at centre point between pulleys.
Worried I may have done it to tight but then dont want it to loose tried to set it roughly as it was before I loosened alternator!

Also why is there teeth on belt looked like to me none of pulleys have grooves for teeth all smooth! :

The small teeth just help it to slip that much less, and by the sounds of it you've done it correctly i think your just worrying bout nothing really, and in my eyes it doesnt have to be to that exact measurments on the haynes

If you've got a plastic fan you don't really need the gap in the shroud. You just need to slacken off all four alternator bolts, once the belt is slack pull it off the alternator pulley and crank pulley, then one at a time pull the fan blades in (toward the engine) and feed the old belt over the top, eventually putting it between the fan and the radiator. Once you've done this over all the blades you can then pull the belt out :w00t: Fit new belt in the same way (but backwards).

You're right about the tension. I get the tension by sticking a crowbar between the alt and the block. Give it a gentle push and it moves the alt out and you can then tighten the bolts up.

The belt is toothed so that it bends round the pullies nicer

Thanks all appears to running fine no slipping so thats good and tension near enough so its not super taught but got give either way.
I see course makes sense as to why its toothed now!

Do they brake as much as they used to now they are fiber reinforced? if it does go guess car over heats very quickly?
