Is Classic Insurance The Way To Go?

It's been awhile since I've been on the forums. (Mainly because most of the time I want to stab my home internet connection and they banned access from work -.-)
But I found a loophole at work and I'm back ^.^
I have a question about insurance for my wonderful mini. As she's a 1995 model does she now qualify for classic insurance being over 15 years old? My insurance runs out with Admiral next week and they want too much for me to justify re-insuring with them. Not many other companies will even look at me as I'm 23 and she's technically "modified" with her rainbow paintjob. >.<
Does anyone know of any companies I can look at as I'm struggling to bring the costs down and as a student if its too much I might actually have to sell her :'(

Doubt you will get cheaper than £620 for a 17yr old!!
Im 28 with 10years no claims and is £1000+ for my Jeep i use everyday! ok £150 for me mini.
But £620 what minimad01 said is really cheap!!
Try Lancaster, thats who im with, £150, but its older than yours!

To qualify for classic car insurance usually requires having a 'Standard policy' on another vehicle as the main form of transport , or being a named driver upon an 'every day' policy (Mother/ Father / sibling) may apply also. Although I have heard of a few classic car policies that will allow you to use the classic as your main form of transport - Either wait to see if someone can suggest a company or email a few selected companies and see where you stand.
I have never had good service from any of the known companies when it comes to classic insurance - better to find someone who actually has an interest in cars and not just the premium - The guys at Hagerty are easy to talk to (no connection, just a customer).
I just had a look for an old company that I used in the past, but cannot find the item I want; They are an independent broker (Essex based) who found me some great deals - They may be advertised in Practical Classics ect - Let WHSmiths be your library here

If none of the above helps: My brother-in-law (a learner driver) got the best deal from Kwik Fit Insurance; I think they heavily discount on year 1.
Hope that gives you some ideas......?
Just seen the replies whilst typing - £400 sounds good, but still worth phoning around and playing the game...

Ashbourne Ins
Never used 'em but might be worth a call to get some benchmarks.
Also remembered that most of the cheaper policies have been underwritten by Equity Red Star. Going via a broker is often better that approaching the company direct as the brokers rates are heavily discounted.
And the last one if you're lonely and have a day to spare are brokers directory

Edit2add:
Don't worry what they call themselves....Not all are truly independent but are affiliated to sell a limited amount of policies.

Best thing to do is have a look through the back of Mini Mag and Mini world and give the specialist insurers in there a ring. Also some specialist places will give you a discount if your a member of the BMC, so thats worth asking about.
Even if you cant get classic insurance, you can always take out a specialist cover as its always good to get an agreed value.
And brokers are just larger companies that are in contact with the the smaller companies, find you the best deal and get a bit of money out of it! Kind of like Confused.com.
