right, need help.
ive been offered an H reg cooper, bodywork is really good and the engine is a minter, cam, rockers, headwork etc etc.
i have been offered this for 750, which i think is absolutely brilliant, its all structurally sound etc.
BUT this was supposed to be as a first car! and insurance is going cost a hell of a lot on a cooper for a 17year old isnt it?
thinking about it as a write this im not going to turn it down anyway, but what im thinking is, would it be a stupid idea to maybe get that, and since the body is sound etc drop a cheap 998 engine in just to do me for a year, and keep the good engine in my garage for when i can afford to insure it, or is it not quite that simple ie. getting it registered and that?
what are my options?
cheers

Definately mate.
You can pick up a 998 really cheap. Make sure its a good en though, dont want to end up spending loads on it to keep it going.
But, yeah. Id definately do it.

thats what i wanted to hear
what about registering it though, reading in a dvla leaflet thing it says "writen evidence of engine change from garage that carryed out the work" or something like that..
what would i need to do if i was to do the swap?
cheers

Leave the 1275 in it, even changing to a 998, is counted as a modification and hence your insurance is more likely to go up rather than down... and a there's very little in the insurance groupings.
and for 750, it's a decent price

Try sticking one of your parents/relations on as a named driver..also worth limiting the annual mileage on the poilicy..all seems to help.

just keep it as is matey, your insurance as said will prob go up NOT down.
1275's are just as cheap to run, tune and repair.
try tesco for your insurance and also virgin, they have been excellent with me!
failing them, buy max poo and go through the back of there, you will deffo find some cheap quotes in there. and you dont even have to read the b*ll*cks inside it! BONUS!!!

Do yourself a favour and ring around, try a co. called Brent Acre Insurance (01792646633) They were good to me with my modded fiesta and i'm only young. You must tell them all the mods in general (eg. brake upgrade, engine tuned to xxbhp, suspension upgrade etc) and they'll give you a bhp limit with the policy, you can do what you like to the car within that agreed bhp. I would be surprised if they charged you MORE for a 998, as they quote you for bhp rather than number of mods.
Do this and then you'll know what's best, but yeah, a 1275 is as expensive to insure as my fiesta 1.25 zetec (group 5 ish), which equates to £1500ish when i was younger.
