Model: a-series 998
Year:n/a
Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible): recently stripping down an engine that i picked up, and there are no engine number plates on it.

i have managed to find out that it has an pre a+ crank, and an a+ unleaded head.

the casting number on the back of the block is wfm1028, but i cant seem to locate this casting number, i need to get parts for it, any help would be appreciated :D

i just want to know if the block is pre a+ series, and roughly what age the block is.

it also has a no.3 cam if thats any help, what is a number 3 cam any body know?

Could it possibly be WFM1026? As that would be a A+ smalbore (998) block :D

had a look this evening and the block definately says wfm1028.

i have an a+ block sitting around that is no good, and that says wfm1026, would i be right in assuming that wfm 1028 theoretically should be a later block?

1026 is 998 A+
1028 is..........

yeah it's defo a tranvsverse block,

well it looks almost identical to the a+ i took apart and swapped all the stuff over to.

i ordered the bearings for it today, and the company i ordered the bearings with said it's got a-series bearings.

i'll have to get a pic of the casting number

to find out if its a-series or A+

take a look at the dizzy mounting hole, they are different.
also note the position of the alternator mounting bracket, again they are different.

Mounting bracket closer to middle of engine is A-series
Mounting bracket closer to R/H (radiator end) is A+

Yup, pic would be the way forward, the more photos of different parts of the block the more useful they will be!
