Right well today I started on my rat bonnet. It was blue which I didnt want so I painted the whole underside of it in black hammerite really badley. Anyway I quite like the black hammarite. Its done quite think so has alot of runs. I was wondering if anyone had painted their whole bonnet in Hammerite and if they had any pics. I may not go for the more comment rust look and paint it in black and maybe a bit of yellow Hammerite.

O yes and this wont be on my mini all the time. Just now and again for when I feel like a change.

just do it matt black. it will be terrible in hammerite.

chalk board black?? you can then have a play with the coloured chalks now and again

funnily enough, today i was prepping my fiberglass mk1 bonnet, and had the same thought for the chalkboard paint, lol

i painted a whole 89 nissan micra in hammerite when i was 15 lol!

was a field car, and the paint was all patchwork so i thought sod it, lets have a laugh, painted it with a paint brush! and put some white viper stripes on! looked awful! runs everywhere!

the only reason i did it in hammerite was because i only had enough rattle can to do the bonnet! which came out quite well considering i did it in a barn and did it in 5 mins! i would say matt black rattle can would be best, espec if you spend time prepping properly! i just painted it on over the old paint!

and ive prepped it for gloss black, so its perfectly prepped

Thanks for the ideas. Now I have done the underside and I'v seen how its come out I am gonna go for the rust look. I can always sand it back and to it matt black if I want a change.

how about rusty but get a stencil of whatever design you please and spray the stencil with whatever the cars colour is would look epic

remember if you leave it to go rusty then youll have a job to get it back to clean metal when you respray it otherwise the rust will come back through quickly if its not been removed properly.

Well like I said its only a old bonnet. Its not really any good. It came of a concourse mk1 that hit a dear and ended up nose first in a ditch. So it was pretty bent when I got it. I even used it as a sled when me had all the snow. I have straightened it up so it dont sit to bad put I'm hoping the bonnet pins will hole it down as flush a possible.

Got the front to look really good.


The back still sits high on one side.



Those pics are from last year soemtime. I got all the paint off that rust you can see their and left it in primer. I now just need to take all the primer off and leve it outside for a bit.

Right all the paint is now off it and its in the back garden. Now just waiting for it to rust.
