Hi,

I've just put a MG Metro 1275 into my mini but it wont start. The electric ignition system its self came with the engine all I have done is use the coil from my 998. It does produce a spark but it doesnt look strong enough for the engine to get going. I think this is because the 998 coil is a ballast resistor type and I've heard that a 1275 with electronic ignition needs a particular coil type. Does anyone know what type it is? And where I could find one?

Thanks

I've just done some poking about ont t'interweb and I've been reading various topics on people with similar problems and some one recommended the DLB198. Which would be best?

I have also just installed an MG metro engine into my mini and i am running my points ignition coil with electronic ignition and it runs perfectly. I have however had 2 coils pack up on me within around 6 months so whether this is due to engine vibration or because its not the electronic type then i'm not sure. I have though just picked up a metro electronic ignition coil which says 'only to be used with contactless breakers' or similar.

Dont forget you need to wire in a switched 12v feed to your new electronic coil. Take it from the top fuse of your fusebox.
