I'll be getting my clubby back from the paint shop in a few weeks time and when I start fitting everything together I'm gonna be using some second skin products for the sound deadening, but my query is would you use something on the engine side of the front bulkhead? I only ask because originally it came with a type of horse-hair mat which tucked in at the top of the engine bay. I will be sound proofing behind the dashboard, just wondered if the other side needed doing as well or is that just overkill?

Cheers

IMO, you can never have too much sound proofing in a Mini, especially if you're using it as a daily drive. I chopped and fitted one of these to the engine bay in mine....

Seems to do a good job of sound proofing and tidies up the bulkhead too.

Has anyone heard of AGRIEMACH ltd before? They do a few products for firewalls and other heat and sound deadening material. They do a firewall product that is only £51 for a 5ft x 3ft sheet LINK.

I would never put soundproofing on the engine side of the bulk head, not unless you are 100% sure that the bonnet/ engine bay is 100% water tight 100% of the time (which it's never going to be...let's face it) Otherwise the stuff just soaks up rain water, road spray and other moisture which in turn corrodes your fuse box and the wiring that runs across the bulkhead. Having now lost two fuse boxes to "wet soundproofing induced corrosion" and having also financed my local auto electricians retirement, I removed mine and have had no such problems since. My advice would be to put extra thick soundproofing on the passenger compartment side of the bulkhead or wear some earplugs instead!

I found best way to stop noise from engine bay was to add the seals to bonnet from minispares. Its apparantly standard from 97' on. It pushes on to the rear bonnet lip on scuttle panel i think its called and does
down each side of bonnet some, now mine is more quiet and no water in at rear now either!
