Oil From Bell Housing.

1995 cooper with 1300 MG metro engine.
Oil coming from hole at bottom of clutch bell housing.
Now is this because I have slightly overfilled engine oil by about half a litre and excess is coming through seal and into bell housing. Am I being optimistic in thinking that if I drain some off all will be well or do you think its an engine out job again and replace the seal (again)?
Also does anyone know of a rolling road in Newcastle area who have experience in setting up carb on a mini?
Thanks,
Steve.

I think you are being optimisitc regarding the excess oil coming out that seal, however to replace the seal is not necessarily an engine-out job (can be done in-situ). When you fitted the last seal, did you use the special tool to protect the seal edges from the primary teeth?

Errr, what special tool? Guess that answers that question.
How can I replace the seal without taking the engine out, I know it pretty tough to get to down the left hand side, would I need to take the head and block off again to get to it or is there some other trick?
Oh and what does this tool look like?

You need to jack up the engine/box to remove the engine mount and clutch cover. remove the clutch and flywheel and then you can see the oil seal.
I have the tool somewhere (dont ask me where though haha) and im in newcastle area too.
PS. Green and whites for your rolling road. They will tune it by ear etc and make sure its all set up, then they take it to a rolling road (not theres, but wont say whos or where it is either).

Hi Steve,
Minispares link to the tool
Essentially:
- you pick the old one out
- Put the cone piece over the splines of the gear, and lightly oil it
- push the seal over the gear
- then use the "bean can" piece to squarely push the seal home. You use the flywheel bolt to apply even pressure
Replacement of the seal with the engine in is detailed in the haynes manual.

Will buy tool and see how it goes.
Hey Jordie, where is green and whites? Think I will take her down for them to look at. Oh, and how much do they normally charge to sort it out? Take it they wiil check the needle and change if necessary? Where do you guys normally meet? If I get her running I wouldnt mind tagging along. If you can find the tool I wouldnt mind getting hold of it so I can replace the seal, if thats OK.
Just read its at the Holystone, when is the next one so I can pop along?
Steve.
