Hi guys and gals, im just having a general rant about minis in general today. Over the last couple of days my car has started falling apart lol and im getting fed up of using a mini as a daily driver. Anyone else feel the same and how many of us spend are well earned weekends working on the car to keep it road worthy.

I think it may be time to buy anouther car

learnt my lesson a long time ago and bought a primera as a DD - cheap, fun (yes fun, believe it or not) and reliable - the mini is in the garage and when its finally finished will be for fun at the weekends

i understand that i mean my mini is bright orange and i love the attenion it gets but people just dont know how bad it really is. i would love to just be able to take car off the road and restore it properly rather then mess about working every weekend to keep it going. to be honest for it to go through its MOT in december its going to need a little bit of welding anyway. im so undecided what to do, see i have enough money to take it off the road and restore it lol but that money could go on anouther car and how will i get to work and back everyday.

this week alone my exhaust came clean off braking both exhaust hangers and 2 exhaust brackets, my choke cable got stuck and like a noob i thought pulling as hard as i could was going to help so thats now broken. its currently suffering with a misfire thats been on and off for the past month. and one of the bonnet brackets snapped so my bonnet is currently bodged on. lol

i think i may bite the bullet and get a golf DD and work on the mini over a couple of years. what you guys reckon.

I REALLY WANT MY WEEKEND'S BACK

I used my car for over 10 years as my only transport, now the Minis are just fun for the weekend (they are lucky if they do 500 miles a year), much better to have a cheap diesel run around and free off your cash for that restoration :mmkay:

i think thats what im going to do. having a browse a gti's at the minute. just trying to justify nearlly triple the price in insurance, my mini is £500 a year fully comp with all mods declared. a 2000 2.0 gti is £1400 a year and a 2000 1.8 turbo is nearlly £2000 lol. hmmm golf diesel may be a good idea.

This is why im going to get a crappy run around for a first car and save money to do a proper restore first time round and not on and off so i end up with a good car :mmkay:

If your trying to save money to work on your mini I would'nt be looking at GTi's, just get some bog standard jap or german car, (don't buy french), even the focuses and Ka's are OK and fine handling, then you can spend the savings on your pride and joy - i use my 12yr old primera for work and family which means I have w/e's for the mini

Well I have two Minis and use either of them for work depending what mood I am in, and which one is broken.

Sometimes they both are. Luckily I have a Discovery as a backup/family car. When all three are broken I get lifts.

What's the moral of this story. Rover products can be unreliable, but at least the parts are out there and you can DIY if you have a bit of a clue.

The wife's Golf TDI, forget it straight to the garage. Even the throttle is flyby wire. No cables to replace engine error light and a £400 bill,

At least I can fix Mini's
