Model:Rover Mini Sidewalk
Year:1995
Description of problem (please be as in depth as possible):
Pretty sure my brake servo is kaput. Never thought to replace it though, as it does not bother me not having power assist in braking. But it's MOT time, and I'm wondering if I need to replace this before I go get it inspected?

thanks!

Let me google that for you!

UK MOT info, 'Correct operation of the servo assistance system' is checked.

er there is an MOT clause which says something like if car was originally fitted with one then it's a failure if it's not there or disconnected. If it was not originally fitted with one then if one is there but disconnected, then that is no reason for failure.

How do I know? Well my machine passed all the usual brake tests but failed because my servo was not in circuit and should have been. The MOT man rang the MOT people to check. There was nothing wrong with the brakes but it failed on a mere technicality. If it had not been present, the MOT man admitted it would have passed because he did not know that one was originally fitted.

Bummer i can't just take it out. How can i determine whether it's the servo or the hose that's shot? I pump up the brakes and then turn on the engine and the pedal doesn't move. Brakes seem to work fine though, no problems braking, it's just a stiff pedal. I don't see any signs of brake fluid leaking anywhere in the area. Around the vacuum line banjo bolt going to the manifold, there does seem to be a bit of greenish corrosion. Although the engine seems to run fine.

Also, if needed, anybody know where to get a replacement hose? I see one at minisport, but it's £30!! seems a bit steep for some hose, fittings, and whatever that valve/filter thing is in the middle.

thanks!

I've got one of those hoses if you still need it?
