Hi everyone,

I have a 1965 mini with no logbook so i ordered my heritage certificate. I have just got it after a month of waiting and was curious to know if anyone has gone through the motions of getting a logbook from a heritage certificate?
I think i have to get a club to inspect the van to say it is what it is and then tell DVLA.
Is there any clubs anyone can recomend? i live in surrey.

any help would be great

A lot depends on whether the car was ever issued with the more modern style of registration certificate. If it has and you know the reg and chassis number of the vehicle then use form V62 and apply for the registration certificate.

If the registration number is no longer available or you don't know it, then DVLA may issue you with an age related number on production of a dating letter from a recognised club which deals with your make of vehicle. (British Mini Club ???).
If you live near a local DVLA office, give them a visit in person with all the information you have. They are usually very helpful and can give advice (better than you will get on the phone fron Swansea) and check reg document availability there and then.

I did do the online check for the reg on the direct gov website and it returned no results.
the car has been in a garage since about 1966 so very doubtful about a new log book. if i still have the plates for the car and the check come back with no cars i would think it would be ok to keep my plates??.....i know how things can be though.

thanks tommy13

I had this with my 66 elf when I tried to apply for a logbook. Due to it not having been on the roads in the last 20 or 25 years the DVLA had destroyed the records for it so would only issue an age related reg unless I could prove it's original one belongs with that car. To do this you can either get in touch with the appropriate car club of which the DVLA will supply the details or just get a heritage certificate & send a copy with the relavent forms, & the logbook will be issued with the original registration.

The Mini Cooper Register are approved by the DVLA for authenticating your Mini for a new logbook. Not sure if you have to be a MCR member or pay a small fee for the inspection.

I also had this done several years ago by Chris Cheal of the National M.O.C. He inspected the Mini and any surviving documents, made his recommendation to the DVLA, then they issued a new registration document V5 with original numberplate.
