this is very sad indeed. i see people using their mobile phones (van drivers and young girls mostly) and it really angers me. there should be a very harsh punishment for mobile users whilst driving. a girl driver killed another driver plus her own passenger friends whilst texting on her phone whilst driving here in Braintree.

Johns funeral is on monday morning.
The two clubs he was a member of, Cumbria Classic Minis and the Cumbria Mini Cruisers will be attending and escorting the hearse at the families request.

Many thanks for the kind words, he was a really nice young lad with a great future ahead of him, just sadly in the wrong place at the wrong time :(

Rich
Chairman

Cumbria Classic Minis.

john was a close friend of mine, i went through 6th form with him always talking about minis and classic fords. He was a bright young lad with a future ahead of him. He will be missed by many, he was taken way too soon.
RIP John you wont be forgotten!!

Very sad story. Ive just turned 17 and can't wait to get behing the wheel of my mini but this really has made me be more cautious on the roads. It is such a shame to loose someone who has so much going for them.

Rest In Peace John

With statistics like the following

"A UK Department for Transport statistics publication, presenting estimates of the risk of driver injury in two car injury collisions, based on reported road accident data, estimated that the 1990–2000 Mini was one of two small cars (the other being the Hyundai Atoz), which, with an estimated 84% of drivers likely to be injured, presented the greatest risk of driver injury. The average risk for the small car category was 76%"

i don't think that there is anything you can do to make a mini safe, there is always a risk involved everytime we get behind the wheel of any car, us mini owners just have to accept that our risk is slightly higher than most. It does sadden me when people do die in RTA's with their minis and my thoughts are with his friends and family.

RIP.

And that explains why it's the cheapest way by far, of insuring a 17 year old. My quote was £700 less than a Fiat Cinquento.

I think its difficult to make statistics like that, i work for a recovery firm part time i have on several occations picked up cars that are smashed beyond recognition yet the drivers have walked away, i have also picked up cars that look like they have have had a fairly minor accident yet they have been soco'd because its been a fatal, its not just the car you drive its what you hit and how you hit it.

Its very sad when someone is killed in an accident, i lost a long time friend a few years ago on the devon link road between bideford and barnstable if you loose our life on the road the feeling will always be that its to soon i dont feel age is a factor, when i think of simon and his tragic death i always remember the saying "the good die young"

Thats so sad :D I'm 18 myself and the amount of Knobs on the road these days is unreal. I've almost been involved in a few accidents myself, all due to the lack of care from other road users.

I'm sorry you had to go mate, but justice will be served.

Just adding on this. The mini pickup now has a front end on it. And i believe its primered up ready for spraying. Brother is taking up my rear subframe for him at the weekend so it will be a step closer to completion.

Missing you john always thinking about you mate. x
