My dipstick seems to be very loose in the dipstick hole and oil seems to be coming out as there is oil stains all around the hole and down the engine. Do i have to get a new dipstick or is there another way to sort this problem out?

Might be worth checking the engine breathers are breathing ok and not blocked or clogged up with gunk.
I solved the loose dipstick buy buying another one as i dont think you can get the seals separately

Also make sure there aren't any missing bits of seal on your old one, if its coming apart its only gonna drop one way?

Probs the seals on the dipstick. The same thing happened with my dipstick, but the oil didn't come out mine.

Seconded. I changed my clutch yesterday and took the oppurtunity to clean the breather out while it was off. It was absolutley rock solid with crap and gunk,
so much so that I couldnt even bash a screwdriver through it. The crankcase pressure that this was causing must have been huge.

No... the dipstick will be fine, simply replace the O-ring on it...As above, just get another dipstick, its needs to do its job properly
Take the O ring and dipstick to a good motor factors and say "I want one to fit on there"... a few pence later and the dipstick will fit nice and snugly

Im pretty sure theres ment to be a sort of metal gauze inside the breathers, hence why you couldnt bash a screw driver through it.

Didn't think of that, i wanted to get a nice shiney one for mine anyway so i just bought a new one but thats a great idea if your not going for anything fancy.
I had both breathers off my engine when i stripped it down and they both had the horrible white creamy oily water from when i changed the head gasket and forgot to drain the water.
I Did an oil change straight after but obviously didn't get all the water out.
I just flushed mine through in the parts cleaner and they were perfect.
There was metal gauze in there yeah but will all the crud in there it had gone rock solid. It came out in little tiny pieces. You can tell how bad it was I filled the one end up with parafinn, left it for over an hour and still nothing would drain through the other end. The crap that did come out looked like silt from the bottom of a pond.
Never heard of them getting that blocked though
