Don't understand what you mean by "...when I select 3 it feels like there nothing im selecting it just moves back really smoothly". What moves back smoothly? The gear lever into neutral or into 3rd gear position?
Sounds possibly like the clutch centre plate is on its way out and, maybe, the 3rd gear syncro hub in the gearbox.

Clutch plate is probably near end of life, do you get any difficulty getting into reverse when stationary ( crunch or grind ) ?

Sounds like clutch drag. If the clutch doesn't fully disengage the synchros are working against the engine to try and match the gear speeds so they can engage. They should only have to slow down or speed up the gears between the clutch and the synchro hub you're trying to engage. Third might be worse because you can change down quicker when just moving the stick straight across from 4th. Whatever the problem is it isn't doing anything for the life of the gearbox so try and time your changes more sympathetically 'n learn to double declutch until you get it sorted,

double declutch - change in to neutral, then change into gear. I'm sure there'll be plenty of blurb on the interweb.

Old Skool, when changing, drop out of gear into neutral, lift off the clutch and back on ( if changing down a little blip on the throttle helps ) and then into your desired gear, this eases the stresses placed on the synchro (baulk) rings.

But, I think your main problem is, as you're experiencing clutch slip, is the clutch plate is worn, and also possibly a good bleed of the clutch hydraulics is in order.

I though maybe the friction plate sticking on the primary gear 'n holding the backplate off - or even an oil leak.

Doesn't really matter, as taking the flywheel out is going to be in order either way.
