i have recently change my indicator stalk because the old one had really dodgy connections on the indicators.
so i plugged it in and everything works except the indicators.
i checked on the connections for continuity and it as follows.
in middle position - no continuity
in turning right position (up) - continuity between brown/green and green/white
in turning left position (down) - continuity between brown/green and green/red.

i think this is all correct.
i think the brown/green wire is suppose to be the power wire and the others just complete the connection when connected.
so i tested the b/g wire and there is no power on it.

i also tried the hazards so i know the bulbs are okay and everything. (i know they are on a separate relay tho)
i havent checked the relay yet as i have a dash and its right behind it.
all of the fuses are okay.
are the 3 in lines fuses in this circuit?

what do i need to check. should i follow the b/g wire to see why there is no power on it

thanks a lot

check the continuity on the relay. if that's ok, then on the green/brown on the hazard switch. whichever stops it, thats what it is.

right i checked the continuity on the relay and there was nothing.
so i followed the wire and it went straight to the hazard switch, next to it on the switch is another b/g wire that does go to the relay.
i put the switch on and check the continuity again and there was still nothing.
in the haynes manual there is this...
(the pics not working ill put it up in a min)
it shows the switch, with the two b/g wires at the top right. they have a large bold line connecting them. does this mean they are suppose to be permanently connected.
i put a wire across these terminals and then tried the indicators again and they worked fine.
i can connect i wire in there to make the indicators work, but is that the correct thing to do, or is it a bodge.
thanks a lot for the help so far

with ignition on, are you getting a voltage from the green wire on the indicator flasher relay? If not, there's an inline fuse on the bulkhead that's possibly gone.

if you are, then you can try jumping the relay and trying it. It should come on, but not flash. if it does, then replace the flasher.

if that doesn't work, then you need to jump the hazard switch (both green/browns) and see if that works. if it does, clean up or replace the hazard switch.

oh, hang on a sec... you have the car in your avatar? In that case, there's no inline fuse, the power feed actually comes from the dim/dip relay (hidden behind the dash, drivers side). I don't actually know of any fixes for that blighter, only to check the connections are tight, and if in doubt, replace! (so keep your fingers crossed the flasher has power!)

ummm. well the relay works okay because all i had to do was connect the two b/g wires on the hazards switch and everything work normally.

(still having trouble with that picture)

then it's the hazard switch.

when you operate the hazards, it breaks the connection to the stalks as the flashing is now supplied by the hazard flasher circuit. Turn it off, and the indicator power comes back from the indicator flasher circuit. If the switch is not getting proper contact with the hazards off, then your indicators wont work.

so do you think i should take the hazard switch apart and make sure it is making the proper connection.
actually, i have another one so i will try that first and see what happens.

heres that picture i was talking about - to me that looks like they should be connected
