Has anybody ever installed or known somebody who has installed a central locking system into a 1970 Austn Mini??? This is the system I was looking at;

Without buying a mini specific one, its VERY time consuming and fiddly to get right.

I went with a similar central locking system to the one you've linked to try and save some money, but a job which might have only taken a day or two to do with the mini kit took me over 2 weeks to complete.

It took that long because you've got to work out where to put the mechanism and make up you're own levers and stuff. Trust me, its not really worth the effort for saving 30 odd quid.

Don't have one of those, they're far too expensive. Try this one, It's what I've got:

click me

Here's a fitting guide:

fitting instructions

And they are mega easy to do as they are customized to the mini.

Yes, so long as the alarm says its compatible with central locking kits. They'll say on their descriptions.

I wouldnt say that this was MEGA easy, by a long shot. I found it was very fiddly even with that kit above, and drilling holes in the doors isnt nice, especially trying to do the door jamb ones. Then again I did mine in the mpi with its side impact bars, but even still I wouldnt jump at the chance of doing that again.

Yeah, search alarm interface on Minispares. That allows the central locking harness to collect to the factory fitted, 2 button alarm.

i bought a cheap servo kit from Maplins (similar to the one on mathew's link), i started the install but i've abandoned the whole Mini project now (the amp & speakers are on ebay). because i was making custom door cards, i never bothered with levers etc. i fitted the servo's horizontally, a lot simpler & works more reliable.
I had some spare servo's so i removed the door lever's/handles and made these button controlled!

Hehe, same here,

one bit of the instructions that isn't stated, is taking the doors off... it makes it a million times easier trust me...

it takes a little bit of fettling to get it just right, but when its working it great! i still haven't got used to it after 8 months or so, i still go to the car with the key, then realise i don't need it!...
