Hey lads,
I was recently at a classic car show in Capel and having spoken to several owners of classic cars, and i mean like 30's and 40's, it seems they repainted thier cars using a mix of yacht varnish and normal paint at a ratio of 50/50. I was abit dubious, as the results are super smooth with a deep shine. Has anyone ever done this? Where these old boys correct? Plus does anyone know where you could get the stuff from and whether it'd be cheaper than a repsray?
Thanks in advance guys!

its enamel paint mixed with varnish, still used upto the 70s for commercial vehicles.
i have painted a few cars with synthetic paint and added about 10% varnish.

As pointed out, it was a common technique for commercial vehicles. The ones I saw were simply finished in plain varnish after painting and sign writing, but only last thing at night after the garage doors were shut. They painted one and then moved the truck next to it and it was covered in white spots the next morning.
I reckon a car would look a bit strange painted this way
