evening all, i was suprised there isnt a thread in the FAQ's about this...

just brought a metro engine on ebay... yet to pick it up,

apart from the clutch and starter... (i plan on using a pre vero and inertia)

what do you need to change when converting from a 998 to a 1275 metro?

i know the thermostat housing, is different, but are 998 and 1275 hoses and radiators the same?

also what about throttle cables?

Just use ALL the 998 bits - including thermostat cover etc. Good plan to keep to the pre-verto and inertia starter.

Err, you do understand that FAQ stands for FREQUENTLY asked questions don't you?

Carb cables and connections aren't related to the engine size, purely to the carb type.

The top hose you need will depend on exactly what engine and thermostat housing you are fitting. It will either be a late Mini type or a Cooper S type. You will need a different rad top bracket too. As said above though, these are just details and they all depend on your exact installation. There isn't really a one size fits all answer to this question but the various topics in the FAQ should provide most of the details about each stage of your particular build.

I can't tell you what is different, but take a look at minispares site and compare hoses etc. It will tell you if 998 and 1275 parts are different.

Yes - you will need the ? shape top hose - and simply fabricate rad mount brackets from strips of steel - or buy the correct 1275 rad mount. I didn't need to do any of this - because my 998 had a 940 head on it anyway!

i was told so yes....

and ive seen a few topics asking whats needed to change engines etc, so just thought it would be a good idea to put it in a place for anyone else attempting the conversion, never mind just an idea

I'll be doing it too in the next couple of months, i'm hoping to swap as much from the old engine as possible. Will certainly help if the clutch is the same!
Let us know how you get on with yours!

The clutch assembly is all the same, but the 998 and 1275 use different strength springs in the pre-Verto setup.
