thinking of buying a new head unit for my mini, just wondering the head units with USB, would i be able to put a lead from the usb out to my tom tom and would that charge the tom tom or at least power it while its connected

if i could it would help as the battery tends to run out on the way back from shows

i dont have a cig lighter in my car may be cheaper to fit one

The usb will power the tom tom almost certainly, but will it damage the head unit or the tom tom? Best to talk head unit manufacturer.

I used to do this!

You can charge the Gps (mine is garmin), but it goes into the mode where it thinks it is connected to a pc, so although its charging you cant actually use it!

With Tomtoms you get an on-screen message when you plug it into a USB port - either connect to the PC - yes/no; if you choose no, the tomtom boots up as normal, with the USB powering it, so should be ok.
