Are you bored with the plain old blue arrow on your tomtom? would you like a nice pic of your favourite car?

Heres how to do it
please excuse the pic of the bini my classic was in the garage and it was raining.

First off take a pic from the rear of your car as viewed from the top a bit like this

Posted Image

Now go into something like photoshop or any pic editing software and clip the car out so it has a white background and looks like this

Posted Image

at this point i made a new file that was square in this instance it was 100mmx100mm and filled it with Red in RGB 255.000.000 colour code. I then layed the clipped out picture of the car on top of the red and made it proportionally the same size as the req square. it now looks like this

Posted Image

You know need to resize the picture so its 80 pixels x 80 pixels and save it as a bmp file.

so it looks like this

Posted Image

Now connect your tom tom to your pc and via the my computer hover over the tom tom device icon and rick click, press the explore option so that it brings up a load of folders and files.

Look for a folder called "Art" and double left click, this should open to show a folder called "cars" double left click this folder and paste the reduced size picture of your car into this folder.

Now disconnect your tom tom from the pc and restart it. if you go through the menus until you get to the "change preferences" section you should find an option to change your car symbol if you click this you should now be able to select your car as your new symbol on the tomtom and it should look like this

I still need to tweak the image a little to get rid of a couple of rougue red bits but you must admit it is a little bit cool isnt it LOL

comments please :D

That's pretty cool. Good, clear tutorial aswell.
If you're using photoshop can't you just have a 100px*100px square with no background to stick the picture in or won't the TomTom like that?

it has to have the red background is rgb red 255.000.000 colour code and reduced size (80pix x 80pix) or it wont work. not sure why but it just has to lol if you can do it all straight off with a bit less messing about im all ears :D im no expert on PS
