on the full out track racing midgets we do at work, the brake, fuel and battery lines are inside the car, along the tunnel, the fuel is a single length of copper pipe, with an inline tap mounted on the tunnel, its not covered with anything and secured using rubber lined p-clips, the brake is braided s/s hose throughout, with a bias valve fitted in the car. They always pass scruteneering.
but on the rally cars we do, we leave the fuel and brake lines outside the car, and protect it with an allumium guard.

im agreeing with avvit on this one, it would worry me having the fuel and brake lines inside the car.
