As I'm off on the LGT tomorrow something was obviously going to go wrong with my car the day before.

This time whenever I stop the car seems to have an erratic idle and then, giving it 15 seconds or so it cuts out. It's most likely the shear amount of water on our roads at the moment - yet the car in itself runs just fine.

Any things to check before I go away tomorrow just to make sure the car is in good health and hopefully cure this problem. I assume it's an ignition problem.

Thanks, Dave.

EDIT: Oh, the car is a 1990 998. All standard ignition minus the removal of the Ballast system (now has a 12v coil).

Afraid I can't help beecause I'm having the same problem, do you also have the problem of the revs "dropping off" when you are at around 2-2.5 thousand? If so I would think we have the same probem. So far I have: changed the sparks and cleaned up all the points on the dizzy and the cap, but neither seem to have done anything, I am going to check the ignition points today but i think its probably more likely to be a fueling problem in my case. At any rate I will llet you know if i solve my problem and you can have a go to see if it helps you too :D

*Lets just pray its not a head gasket :dontgetit:*

Are all of your engines warm when this happens?

Possibly worn jet in the carb?

Mine was doing it with the engine warm and with it cold. I have sorted the problem, turns out it was the contact breaker points, so get your feeler guages and you haynes manual and check that out, also a new set of sparks never hurts :D

Thanks for all the replies people, my car is known to have a warn carb - but never to the extent it dies on idle.

@the-green-monkey - I will give my points a check when I get home, hopefully being a Mini the problem might disappear by itself then :D Maybe all the water exaggerated a problem that has always existed.

Dave.
