i looking in to a mini trailer was wondering u think it would be possible to fit a tow bar with out changing the exhaust.

i don't think u can put them off centre , and i think it would look a little strange and be a bit hard to drive/ park.

there must be a way around it

so that the tow bar come out on top of the exhaust

I think Bungle might have been a little sarcastic here.
You cannot fit it off centre and it you fitted it in the centre you'd have to drop the exhaust pretty much onto the ground to get the clearance.

what if i made my own tow bar.

two bars that go either side of the exhaust, bend up and then join above the exhaust.

tha should work.

the toe bar would be the same lvl as the chrome bumper

i currently have a large square fog light above my exhaust, could put it there.

a bit of work tho

not sure you are allowed by law to make your own towbar i am fairly sure that they need to have been tested to a TUV standard

i await now someone that can confirm or otherwise this

i spent last night doing some reading and i came to the conclution that if the car is before 93 then u could use one that has not been tested.

there was a section in mini world a while back which told you how to make your own tow bar, fitting it to the subframe, i dont see why youcant make it stick out more like you say

I have a factory fitted tow bar on my 96 spi - and in my opinion its absolutely hideous!

You will need to consider how the tow bar attaches to the sub frame, as it wont just weld or bolt onto the rear. for example mines has a square bar through the whole rear subframe which wlll also have implications for where the exhaust back box should be.

Also if you have paid good money for a nice pretty centre exit exhaust why taint it with a ugly tow bar. I assume you wont have the trailer more often than you will.

Personally i would remove mine, but its a bit of a hassle to inform the swedish dvla.

I've been thinking of putting one on my MPi but I don't think I can for 2 reasons. Firstly the handbook specifically says the MPi isn't suitable for towing so I guess this would invalidate my insurance. SEcondly I can't find any company who supply a towbar suitable for the Mpi model.

so I guess no towbar for me!
