if removing the gearselector housing (where the gear stick lives), then it just unbolts from the body, the steady rod unbolts from the gearbox... and the selector shaft is attached to the gearbox with a roll pin.
to get the pin out.. pop it in reverse and using a suitable drift knock the roll pin out...

Above is some very good advice.
When it comes to the roll pin. Do yourself a favour and use a drift.
Many people say to grind the head of a nail, or use a precision screw driver. But i've seen what happens to a precision screw driver, and a nail is made to hold two bits of timber in place.
A drift is made to knock bits of metal, such as a roll pin out. It just makes life so much easier.
The way I did it, is as follows.
-Pop gear selector in reverse
-Drift out roll pin
-Undo bolt above where the selector rod meets the gear box that holds the selector steadying rod in.
-Undo 4 little bolts that hold the gear selector to the tunnel from inside the car.
Don't be afraid. The roll pin can take some biffing before it starts to come out, so jack the car up at the front so you can get some proper hammer swining space.
