Just caught up with this... as I was going down I was following the same diagnostics as suggested... first the oil pressure relief valve, if that was not the case then for the pressure to drop off suddenly, you've got to be looking at a quick and catastrophic failure of something it may be the centre main which has collapsed but my feeling is this would be a slow progressive drop in pressure not a quick jump. However, I'd suggest a complete engine strip, if fragments have been caught in the filter, then they are going to be in all the oilways, oil pump and transmission.

As for people near you, MED in Leicester, or if you fancy a trip further afield, MRA in Wellingborough or Southam Mini & Metro Centre (Napton).
