Hi everyone, the title says it all.
Would a Mercedes A-Class engine fit in a mini, and could you use the climate control system too?
Or, would a Micra K12 engine fit, and would I be able to use the Nissan's climate control if I transplanted it?
Thanks in advance
(By the way, sorry if it's in the wrong section)

EDIT: Maybe a Fiat 500 engine and climate control system would fit? Or a ford Ka's?

k11 micra engine fits but am unsure on the k12, as for climate control not too sure there mate but from taking apart and entire k11 micra i can tell you the heater system on a modern car is HUGE....it woud be an impressive task...

Thanks for the reply 'drummerian', and I suppose you can't do anything like engine transplants (and aircon fitting) that easily, but once It's been done, it'll be worth it! :P

If anyone else has got anything else to add, feel free to add it.

correct! and engine swap isn't an easy thing to do let alone adding in the air con system aswell....would need a seirously small engine or an extended front to find the room i would imagine!

go for it as it would be amazing...just make sure you fully know what you are letting yourself in for!

merc engines are alot of work and i mean alot of work

you disconnect the battery and change a sensor or something then plug it back in the car wont run properly it go into Limp mode to get you home bacily then it need to go to merc to be fixed on there system and if you took a mini they will charge you a bomb cause its not a merc

Bmw do that same now :/ its stupid and Smart cars

Thanks for letting me know about that Stevee - that's really useful - just out of wonder, do you know when they started doing that?
And yeah Smart is just another branch of Merc, for they created Smart.
Must say it sounds very stupid to do that, but I suppose it brings more coppers to the garage that you take it to. (For they must be the only ones who win from that situation)

I'll have to have one big think sometime soon, and a big save.

Why not carry out one of the many already proven engine/transmission transplants like Micra, Vauxhall 8v & 16V, Rover K series, etc. Subframe kits are also available off the shelf for some conversions. Air Con parts (but not full climate) for the classic Mini as fitted for export can also be imported secondhand from Japan or sometimes complete systems come up on ebay in the UK.

As already said, increasingly modern cars such as Mercs, BMW's, New MINI's, etc have all the engine ecu, transmission modules and body control/climate systems integrated together along with a shared network 'bus' type wiring system which makes it very difficult to transfer individual parts to another make of car easily. However if you are determined enough anything is possible.........

That's why I was wondering about the Micra K12 engine, as I've come across quite a few threads about the K11 conversion.

You say that, but, in one of my other threads that I created, I had this reply:

I have actually driven one with climate control though. The car is a very late Japanese spec cooper 500 sport with John Cooper conversion. However I cant find any picture evidence on the web though.
It had the temperature displayed, plus the layout is not the traditional japanese spec air con.
Something like this.....

Hope this help.

I don't suppose anyone else has seen a mini like this?

However if you are determined enough anything is possible.........

I think you can say that I'm determined enough - this is my dream Mini slowly taking shape, and I want to go levels of luxury that people thought were only possible in modern, bigger cars.

by the way: Sorry it took me over a day to reply
