Filter King Fuel Pressure Regulator?

i have a 1293 modified engine without a fuel filter so think its time to get one. basically if i get this filter king one will i need an electric fuel pump or can i just run it with the standard type? will i see any benefits from this and are they hard to set up?

The filter king is normally used as a pressure regulator when an electric fuel pump is fitted, as an electric fuel pump will generally have too high a pressure for the carb to cope with.

The filter part is generally an added extra feature.

If you don't have problems with muck getting into your carb and no running issues then it is unlikely you need a filter.

A standard mechanical fuel pump should cope with your engine without the additional cost of a fuel filter or new pump.

If you do have issues with muck in your fuel, cheap fuel filters are available from motorfactors.

i'm fitting a filter king to the scamp on a standard fuel pump but only because i have one laying around in the garage :thumbsup:

Personally if i were you, i'd just nip to the local motorfactors/halfrauds and pick up a universal inline filter. The last one cost me about £3 i think. Running without a filter isn't really advised because the inside of the tank can corrode and the bits will eventually be sucked through into your carb. I worked on a mini that wouldn't start a few months back and it was due to the sediment in the float bowl blocking the fuel entering the carb properly.

You really don't need a filter....... Never used one in any of my cars over the last 45 years!

For the sake of £3, surely its worth the 2mins it takes to fit it for piece of mind. Also a carb rebuild kit is over £50 isn't it.

I never used to run one at first due to having a plastic fuel tank, but even when i removed that to install my new metal one, the plastic one had sediment in the tank.

Agreed a Filter king won't do a lot for a mechanical pump. The idea of a pressure regulator is that you can run the fuel line at higher pressure to counteract the inertia from accelerating & cornering. Since a mechanical pump is next to the carb it makes little difference. SU's also run at a bit lower pressure than other carbs so be aware that a pressure regulator is likely to be set a few psi high out of the box.

Fit a nice big cheapo inline filter, it's handy to see there's fuel in the pipe when you're puzzling over a fault if nothing else.
