and when you fit the engine, dont forget the park switch needs linking :)

Where are the wires ( I know Red/white) on an SPI? I did an old car a while back and the wires were near the selector but doing a '96 sprite now and can not find the wires to join

my wires were in the auto shifter under neath the car. I traced them back up into the car and linked them behind the heater unit under the carpet. Then tooked the reversing light switch wires down the route where the "park" switch was, as thats under the car on manual shifter.

Mine was a PITA too, I ended up unbolting bits up to the rad mounts, got the bottom one tightened then knocked off the top captive nut and replaced it with a new long nut and bolt.
It turned out the place I used to make adaptor plates used 11.5mm plate and not 10mm as per the mini mag guide, this then made the whole process 3mm more difficult. If ts wasnt a Saturday afternoon on a bank holiday weekend I think I would have gone crazy at them!
All is well now though.

PS: dont forget the speedo cable too

Thanks for all the info and replys. It all went together in the end after 2 days of bashing, shouting and hoisting the engine in and out!

At least i can now get on with putting the rest of the car together (I have noted all the other suggestions like the parking wires etc - it's all now on my to do list)

I remembered the speedo cable too :)

So what ended up holding you up?
I just read through this and was going to comment on your first post regarding the spacers.
I put mine betweeen the mount and the engine...just seemed to make sense. Mind you, mine were home made ( 3/8" ) and fit perfectly.

Spacers were a bit big IMHO. I tried putting them in between the engine and mounts but they did not make any difference to the fit and somehow seemed much less stable.

Bruit force, wiggling and swearing eventually won!
