Quick Question Guys

I have been thinking of buying a new fiberglass mini minus shell for a while now but am struggleing to find information about getting them put on the road. The orignal idea with the mini minus and other fiberglass replicas (Domino / TDK / Etc.) Was to use a mini done and transfer all the parts and keep the existing log book.

However, I here now that a Minus needs to go through a full kit car test before going on the road... is this true? do you not keep the orignal cars identity.

I'm seriously thinking about one of them new minius pickups but only if it is going to be an easy build. if its going to be too dificul to get on the road then I dont think I will bother.

Oh I asked on the Mini Minus forum but I think it is dead as no reply for 3-4 weeks

Under the current legislation you cannot swap the body for anything other than a new genuine replacement and keep the same identity. It would count as a radically altered vehicle and would ned to pass various tests, probably ending up on a Q plate. There is a pinned thread, I think in the chat section, about modifying your Mini legally which has all the details.

There is/was a good thread on this regarding SVA (or IVA as its now known)testing. It WILL need one, as it is major work to the monocoque (ie replacing the shell...) It will essentially be classed as a "kitcar" and will either be classed as a Q plate or if you use all new parts sometimes can be called a new build with a 10 plate. Unlikely if you use an a-series engine. All of this though is reliant on the way the inspector views the car. Have a look for the thread though, it was pinned for a while?

I found the stuff in the chat section... seems interesting...

Been reading the ACE website too. I was hopeing it would be a simple body swap and not require all this extra testing... Shame as I really fancied a minus but dont want the headache of the test.

The test needn't be that much of a headache it just means you have to keep the requirements in mind as you build. Though it wouldn't hurt to budget for a retest just in case. You can avoid a Q plate if you use enough of one donor vehicle: some would regard a Q plate as a badge of honour with some advantages over emissions tests as well.
