Why ??? Just use the ultra reliable mechanical pump - it works.

is it really that reliable? i mean, from most of the old cars ive had that have a mechanical fuel pump, they just deteriorate the same way, and ive replaced them with a facet type pump. what sets apart the mini one to make it that much more reliable?

Rare to have any problems with it - much more to go wrong elsewhere on a Mini - don't worry about it!

As you have already bought the pump (what i can assume) I will give you a slightly less dismissive and more informative answer, SU carbs operate at about 3PSI to 3.5PSI.

Well, until it fails and dumps petrol in the oil.

Had that, not fun.

As for pump, I got a 5psi one with NO regulator for a single HS4 (had twin hs2's when I fitted the pump) never had leaks or problems with it.

If its leaking fuel into the oil then yes. And if it is you better get it sorted quickly and change you oil and filter ASAP. Fuel will dilute oil alot until its no longer lubricating your engine properly.
