hi all my names james and a couple of months ago i braught a 1987 mayfair with 30k miles on the clock, i am posting photo's of the build on my face book for all who would like to follow me and comment/chat about the project and anything mini. my profile is open so please come and view my photos of my mini.
i will be constantly taking photos of my mini and posting them on facebook for people to follow along with.
the car has to be out of the unit by end of september so by then i would like the car to be painted/ prepped and ready for paint so i will keep people constantly updated on the build as i will be working on it every monday and wednesday and possibly thursdays to get it ready so i wont keep people waiting for updates on the cars status!

bit about me!
i have never done anything like this before i have done 1 years training as an electrical apprentice and helped out on the odd occasion with some of my dads projects but never really anything to do with restoring cars
my dad has had some experiences with minis but he is a very skilled welder/fabricator having lots of experience in sheet metal work, he currently works for him self doing stainles steel and alluminium fabrications with things such as fuel tanks, exhausts, radiators, roll cages and so on so i will be receiving lots of help from him
colin who has let me use his unit to work on my mini in is also helping me out who has had about 20 years experience building/ playing with mini's so he has also lent me a hand from time to time wich i have been very grateful for, i have also received help from surf blue garage with my panels and wheels so i am not alone with this project :) my main motto through this project so far has been its not what you know its who you know wich applies to everything from building the car to painting the car. other than that everything i have been doing on the car so far has been from asking for some advice a quick demonstration then i crack on with it on my own i.e lots of wire brushing with the grinder then genoliting.

current state of the car!
the front end is now finished so its onto the back, parts will be cut out and replaced around the lights and bumper area then i need to clear up the sills, they need drilling, plug welding and then the rough arse welding needs grinding off from the person who bodged it up before then it wont be long until the car just needs prepping for paint, i have a rough idea of what i want it to look like, white body and roof, gold or white wheels and then red accenting so possibly 2 stripes down the side of the car going from arch to arch and then what ever the colour is i choose possibly blue or red then all the other parts such as mudflaps, calipers and possibly bumpers will be sprayed the same colour but i have quite a bit to go before i reach that stage so wish me luck!

the car has run and ive had a little drive in it, everyone who witnessed commented that the engine ran sweet as a nut although it had been stood for 2 years before that and had to have the bell housing taken off and everything freed up on it. i let coling have a drive who got in it and started doing reverse doughnuts with a huge grin on his face as it had been a while since he last drove a mini

this is the link to my facebook profile it should go straight to my photo album, please take a look and then send me some PM's on the mini forum, all comments/help/CONSTRUCTIVE critisism will be appreciated also feel free to ask me any questions about the build if theres something i dont know i wont reply straight away but ill go ask someone or research your question and try and get back to you

THANK YOU FOR READING MY POST!!!!!! this is my first time with a mini and so far everyone i have spoken to who deals with minis in any way all seem like really great people so thank you for reading and commenting! sorry for such a long post

i posted this topic in the introduce yourself section then i spotted this section so i moved the post here :)

hi all thanks for looking please view my facebook profile for more pictures, this will be regularly updated with comments for each photo,
i have now got a 1275 engine which will be stored, im going to run the car on the 998 for a bit as it is a good engine then when the car is on the road the new engine will be my side project to tinker about with then when its ready swap the engines round!

i have now got sportspack arches, i did want miglia ones but i have been persuaded to have sportspack plus these went for the right money on ebay and were being sold 2 minutes away from where i live. hopefully soon they will be accompanied by some anthracite 12x6 minilites so the car will still look nice even though id of prefered miglia's with 13x7's.

thanks for looking hope to hear some comments soon!
