Hi, I'm new to the forum so apologises now if this subject is sitting somewhere and new to the Mini game.

I've got a 1979 Clubman with a 998cc engine (yet to work out futher details than this as I've only had it a couple of weeks) and all has been running fine until today! I can no longer change gear and am stuck in 3rd. The clutch seems fine as I can feel it bite.

I'm thinking it maybe something to do with the selector and hoping it is where the 2 rods are joined. Can anyone shed any further light onto this as I really do hope it is a simple as I think it is!

is the gearstick loose? the only simple fix i can think of is if its the roll pin come loose in the gear selector box(under the car where the gearstick fits into) if its fallen out just put a new one in?

If one of the roll pins has fallen out the stick will wobble about in any direction, They can also get part way out and jam against the diff housing.

Hi both thanks for your input. Your suggestions are what I'm thinking. The gearstick just moves around freely, something akin to a stirring a spoon in a bowl!!!

Unfortunately due to other commitments I won't be able to check this out for another couple of weeks so will post back with hopefully good news!

It really is a 2 minute job if it's just replacing a pin. It's getting the b*$$ers out that usually takes ages.

Not as simple as some have suggested if the roll pins are still present then the sleeve that links the selector rod to the gear box is knackered and worn out this is common in older remote gear change minis £30 new from minispares.
