Hi,
Stalling after 2 seconds sounds like the immobiliser to me. We had this on a mates K we built a few weeks back.
Do you have matching ECU, 5AS and key fobs?
This was our problem as we didn't have the 5AS so had to send the ecu away to be unlocked.

Dave.

Are you sure you are dissarming the imobiliser as this would cut the engine after a few seconds.... And by using the carb cleaner it could be just overrunning as this burns alot easier, and might just be re-igniting itself.

Can't remember where it was sent too. He took it to somewhere here in Coventry and they sent it elsewhere. I'll ask him when i see him tuesday. I think it was about £80
A search on google should bring up a list of companies who do this if you want to try and find someone local to yourself.

we are currnetly having this problem on our vvc conversion! i spent all day trying different things but no joy. but i did notice if you leave it a few minutes before trying again it runs for a few seconds more? if you just try right away again its 2 seconds before dying.

i have had plenty rovers in the past and when the imobiliser has been playing up nothing at all works, starter doesnt crank, no spark, no pump. and i think maybe no dash lights aswell?

i would have thought if it was the imobiliser now it would be doing the same?

we have the matching key fob and all the loom as we bought a coplete 200 vi and stripped it?

does anyone have any more news on this problem?

Im going with it being your immobiliser. Im not sure about all k-series but i know the 143bhp 1.8vvc does this.

It will run for a couple of seconds then cut out. I would go over your 5as wiring.

When the power is disconnected, you need to re-mate the key fob, this is done by pressing one of the buttons about 10 times in succession rapidly. I dont remember what one it so so try both, you will hear a relay click when they mate up.

this may sound obvious... but try pressing the fuel cut off switch. mine used to run for two seconds before cutting.
