Hello everyone,

We have 1968 Australian built Mini. I have this door handle set from Mini Spares 24A2083KIT on the way http://www.minispare...=...2145&title=

The question I have is that these are said to fit 1966 on, but were Minis in UK still sliding windows in 1966? Do Mk1 and Mk2 Minis in UK have sliding windows? Our car has wind up windows and from the picture on the site, the square rod coming out the rear of the handle is much longer that the rod on our existing door handles. From inside our doors. behind the handle is a circular steel piece that is directly behind the handle, does this mean a Mk2 door?

Also, how do these handles come off? I've never had to change on in the past.

Any assistance would be appreciated,

Regards Simon

this type of handle was used on mk1/mk2 up to the end of the mk2 in 1968, the diffrence between the later mk1 handle and the early ones is the handle was changed later to fit the safety button on the door skin.
if i remember the rod you mention can be removed from the handle and changed over as it has a pin fitted to keep it in place, regards the metal plate behind the handle to mention, the english doors dont have one.

Hi Midridge2

Many thanks for the reply, I will change the square rod when the new bits arrive from the UK.

Hiya Simon,

Why didn't you buy from one of the Aussie spares suppliers? I'm just curious as I have seen some cool stuff on the UK sites but always thought the postage would mean it was cheaper to source stuff locally (well in SA or VIC anyway).

Cheers

Oh yeah,

From the BMC (Aust) workshop manual...

Remove the interior handle, window regulator handle and door trim panel
Remove the screws holding the latch and lock remote control unit
Remove the interior locking control securing screws
Pull or carefully prise the button of the key operated lock link off he latch locking rod
Ease the patch outwards, remove the circlips securing the remote control and the interior locking lever to the latch and withdraw both units and the latch from the door frame

Exterior door handle
wind up the window to remove the handle from the door.

Hope the picture helps. Please let me know how you get on (any little tricks etc) as I will need to take my door handles off soon.

Hi Clovus,

Handle set from UK was 56 pounds ($101 AUD), same set from SA supplier was $179. I ended up buying quite a few items and even with air freight it worked out around half price from the UK. I ended up getting hinge set 79 pounds ($141), same in Australia $299.00.

Where abouts in Australia are you? I think I checked all the local suppliers, but I might have missed some.

Hi again, this is brilliant, just what I needed, many thanks. I've never removed the handles before, but we are fitting new door skins in the next few weeks,

I'm a fellow Qlder, but on the always amazing, ever changing Gold Coast. I've just started using www.minis.com.au as they seemed to be cheaper then classic motoring and the chap was super helpful and friendly. I try not to use minisport.com.au as they were the dearest for most bits. Besides, minisport dicked me around terribly and then abused me when I rang to tell them they missed something in my order. They seemed to think that the $1200 order I did was nothing out of the ordinary and said mine just one of so many that they couldn't really go back and check and I'd have to wait until they did a stock take to see if they really did miss bits of my order out (from the owner of the business, nonetheless). They've also sold me parts that didn't match the description, but it was so much hassle the last time that I just sucked it up....

Oh yeah, anything else you need, just let me know. I have the Lindsay Porter resto manaul ( a good read) and the Leyland Aust workshop manual here.

Hi, Gold Coast, lovely part of the world. I will have a good look through minis.com.au . I have purchased this time from minisport.com in UK and mini spares, depending on who was best price for what I was after,

Regards Simon
