1987 mini mayfair, with a 1275 red top engine

the car was misfiring recently so i had the carb cleaned out n set up and a fuel filter fitted. the guy reccomended that i change the distributor cap, rotor arm, leads, and ignition module as there was a still a slight misfire.

i did this and the car started up fine.

next morning it wouldnt start. checked a few things and it was doing this stop start thing, and not starting. cant really describe it accurately so ive stuck a video up.

i changed the cap and leads back to the old set to check, and the same problem happened. then i checked for a spark and there was noting at any plug. im a total amateur mechanic, but i guess this means a problem with the ignition system somewhere but i cant figure it out as it started up fine the day before.

ive also just remembered that water had gotten into the battery compartment in the boot. the battery had leaked but again the car started up fine after i had cleaned it all up. i dont know if this is relevant but i also noticed that the headlights and horn aren't working, which i guess is just a blown fuse.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

sounds like it turns over well enough. There are no fuses on the headlights (only tail 'n side are fused).

Check the connections on the starter solenoid.

Also, if you hook up a plug directly to the coil (or ensure one is lined up with the rotor arm) it should spark if you earth the negative terminal on the coil (the -ve connection to the dizzy does the same to create a spark, so you may need to disconnect it for the test). If you get a spark at the plug you can turn your attention to the dizzy.

I assume your useing a 54dm dizzy in which case the module on the side of it has packed up of there is a dry/loose connection between the module and the coil.

Rob.
