Anyone else think it would be a good idea to compile an easy to use and access database of scrapyards in the UK?

any ideas on how we could do this? Map based would be cool, but logistically how to then make it so people can add their scrapyard bookmarks?!

Thoughts?
I put this here as it would be great if we could have it as a forum feature, but perhaps its best in general chat. Again, whats people views? Admin is it something that could / you would want to incorporate?

:D

Would be nice, but would be even nicer if the scrapyards had mini parts in them. I haven't seen any for years in my local ones and they used to have about 3-4 in each.

Google Maps API would allow you to do this, if anyone on here is familiar with working with API's.

I have a basic knowledge of it - will happily cobble something together in a bored moment...

What do people want on it? A map of the uk that u can add markers to?

I never really like by county because I live on the edge of 3 different county's. having to search each one is a bit of a pain

I was just thinking a map of the uk with pins in it. I was thinking if you click the pin the address and maybe a review / people notes can be accessed? I thought getting something like that together would be a lot of work but radius by postcode gets my vote, if its possible?! that would be pretty awesome!

and thank ya

Personally I find a 60% of breakers dont have a website, and there isnt any reference to them online. There not really known for their cutting edge technolgy!

Plus it would be nice if people could leave reviews or notes on the list. I very much doubt it will be quicker using google?
Typing in a post code and having a list of scrapyards vs googling breakers yards / scrap yards and trawling through god knows how many irrelevant data and sites to actually find what you want. I think I know which I would personally use

well I was throwing open to the members and asking how they would like it done.

Thanks for you recommendation bungle but if you dont want to use it then you dont have to, google obviously works for you so go ahead and keep using that.

If other forum members would rather have it map based or in some other format that would be easier to use then why not?

I personally think a map would be far better than a list!
