hello, i am currently fitting my full 6 point roll cage today :( and have a quick question to those wh have already done this, did you put in the dash rails, dash etc before putting the front section on?

onky as it looks as if its going to be very tricky to do this once the roll cage is in, and as mine i am welding my cage in i cant just unbolt it and remove it.

any advice will help, share your prievious experiences with me please :)

if your welding your cage in you will have to think of something else to do with your dash... you wont be able to remove it unless the cage is removable or the dash rail/dash are modified and cut down either side

it when sense? make a circle shaped cut so the roll cage kind of sits in the dash?
im assuming that would have to be done for both top and bottom rails?

what other options would there be? sorry i have a mk3 1986 mini, just so you know.

naa, you wont have to neccesarily for the bottom rail as thats more like a padded cover thats attached over the rail.

what dash have you go? i assumed a flat wooden dash of some type? unless maybe a fibreglass type? On my fibreflass type i had to cut each side down to make it narrower to fit between

i did have the flat wooden dash and thats what i was going to go for. sorry no pics as it is a stripped shell atm. If i am going to have trouble getting the dash in then i may have to opt for something different!? :(

i have just tried the bottom padded rail and that fits fine but i dont have a top rail yet so cant try that, will i have to notch a bit out?
cheers for the fast replys! :)

its not that the top dash rail is notced...its just been narrowed so it will slide out front inbetween

you might JUST be able to see what i mean, my cage buts up very close to the rail anyway but its cut down to the edge and slots between. Would do the same for the dash itself unles you can shimmy it sideways and back n other side out

yer that kind of gives me a clearer picture although your cage is far more complex than mine :(

so basically you have slightly narrowed the top rail in the chorners so that it can fit in behind the cage.
dont suppose you know if i will have trouble when it comes to fitting the dash?

im sure when i come to fit the rails and dash your advice will be a million times more clear anyway.
while i have someone with a rollcage's attention, where/how would you advise putting the moutning points for a harness?

do i have to drill the mounting point in or can i buy a bar to go accross the back for the harness to loop[ onto??

cheers for the help mate
