I need to protect my '74 Mini from the elements whilst a replacement garage base and garage are laid/assembled etc.
Was going to get a small car cover from Argos but the description said not to be used on cars over 20 yrs old!

Question is - What is the reason why I shouldn't cover a car over 20 yrs old with it?

Please hurry as its rainy season in North Wales from January to December :(

i always thing they trap moisture in under the cover and speed up rusting

i also don't like to think of the cover blowing around in the wind rubbing the paint

Haha that's random, no reason why you couldn't cover a car over £20 years old :S I have a heavy duty coverzone mini cover, and have it on the mini pretty much the whole time in all weathers. It's 100% waterproof even in heavy rain, and has a very soft inner lining, so doesn't scratch the paint at all. It doesn't sweat either, as it's breathable. It cost just over £100, but it's the best £100 I've ever spent! I've had the cheap ones, they're useless in anything but light mist!

What he said ^^^

Not got one for the minis yet, (next purchase), but we have one on our VW camper van over winter. I like them as they do protect from rain, frost, bird shat etc. Get a good quality breathable one and you won't get any sweat and it should have a soft lining so it won't harm the paint work. Some of the better ones have under body straps as well, to keep the cover nice and tight so it don't flap around.

I'll be getting a couple of these in the near future, worth every penny I reckon :(

I have to say that I agree with panelbeaterpeter and mininuts. I have exactly the same cover as mininuts is planning to buy. They are fantastic, miuch better than the £20 jobbie that I had before. The cheap ones are not fully weatherprof and do end up trapping the moisture in. A fully weatherpoorf breathable one is 100 times better and is ideal if you don't have a garage to keep your mini in. I would also recommend getting one that made to measure for the classic mini (rather than a generic small car one) as they are a much better fit and are much less likely to flap around in the wind.

Yup the one in the link is the same one I have. It even has flaps for the mirrors, which "make it look like a baby elephant" apparently.

I have used the Coverzone range for about 5 years now and they are great. The heavy duty one is the best by far and has 2 securing straps which pass underneath the car and clip in to hold the cover securely. Use them on my race cars in the workshop and at the circuits.

When I lived in Ireland I did a couple of bulk buys on these covers for the lads on Miniresource and have a good contact at the company. Would be happy to organise a bulk buy and save you all some money if there is sufficient interest - need to order 10 or 12 to get the best prices.

Ok, thanks for the advice, £100 seems like a sound investment.
