The fuel filter on my SPi 1996 seems impossible to unscrew from the pipe leading to the tank so I want to just rip that pipe out and replace it but after talking to Mini Spares it appears they have none in stock and may not have anymore in stock anytime soon as apparently Rover are going to discontinue the item. What can I do to fit my new fuel filter? I think I've damaged the old one trying to get it off as I now have a leak when the car is running so it has to be changed but I don't know what to do about that pipe.

As a temprary measure I would remove the filter and replace it with a fuel hose and then put a inline filter in place of the factory one, then see what you can do from there, I am also waiting on the spi/mpi fuel filter aswell.

well there is a little trick in that you use a fuel filter without screw connections...

Got the part number written down at home somewhere... think its of a pug or a renault, same physical dimensions, but rather than screw fittings they have pipe ends... so use some hose and jubilee clip it in place... simples...

Sounds good icklemini, let me know if you remember the part number. At least then I can easily replace it in a couple of years when I need to without having to worry about stuck screws again.

Have a word with the parts man for a WIX WF8034 - should be a renault clio fuel filter... i *think* the halfords equivalant is HFF217 (in fact if you do go for halfords, you can get the proper spi one and compare.. :trooper: )

Need some fuel injection hose (8mm) and clips...

My money is on either a broken wire or blown fuse

The thing is, I haven't touched the tank since just before I changed the filter so I can't see why that would be the case. I checked all the fuses and I checked the wire from inside the car to see if it had power there and it didn't seem to but I'm not sure. I assume the fuse for the pump is in the fuse box in the engine bay?

He has started working on his own again today. Perhaps there was a block somewhere that forcing the pump to work full time off the battery has been pushed through. Thanks for your help.

You may be able to get a new one made up by someone like pirtek if you take the old one along for a pattern, worth a go.
