Just got back from the MOT centre and the emmisions were off the scale I have a su carb on my mini 1000

When we pushed the choke off more than the cable will the emmisions went down to nearly 0

All I basically want to know is wether anyone else has had this problem and is there supposed to be a spring on the choke as well as the throttle

Thanks

Choke mech has a spring but only proper way to check it, is to strip the carb down. Then you can check if the jet is binding at all.

The spring is a little round thing from the choke arm coiling round to the carb body. It might have just slipped off, you never know.

ok thanks

i have had the carb apart more than once because of the running issues, finally we have narrowed it down to this because the emmisions were 10.84 Hc and the acceptable level is 3, but when we push the chock arm down like a spring would it goes doen to 0.136 which is miles better, ill have to try to find a spring b4 sunday (stamford hall show)

Are you confusing HC with CO ??

HC is something like 1200 limit for pre 1992 cars
CO is 3.5 or 4.5 depending on age of car.

If it is CO then less than 1 is probably way to weak, you want to be aiming for between 2.5 and 3.5

Well put it this way the box said hc next to it and not co so logic says it's hc and it was red at 10. And went to green when it got down to 3. But I was not on an mot I was trying to sort out the fuel consumption issue
