Hi,

I have a problem with my indicators, when i turn them on they come on ok, but they no longer flash, we though this might be to do with the flasher unit that is near the air-filter, but when i replaced that the hazards worked (which is great because they havnt worked for ages) but the indicators still dont flash! grrrrr

Has anyone got any idea what the problem could be?

you need to change one of two things

firstlly the flasher for the indicators, under the dash by the pedals
secondly change the switch.

but it does sound like the flasher unit

Relays rarely go

The most common problem is poor earth, usually caused by corrosion.

Check the front indicator unit. The metal that holds the bulb is crewed to the bodywork to provide the earth. This bulb holder corrodes relatively quickly.

Changing it is a two minute job. But just to check it, eath the holder to the body with a piece of wire.

Make sure your hazard switch inside the car is switched properly to the OFF position. If not, this can affect the indicators.

If both ( or all three if you have side repeaters ) lights are on at their correct brightness, then i suggest that it can NOT be the hazard warning switch, bad earths etc but has to be the flasher.

Certainly older cars had independant hazard and indicator flasher units

I would suggest that you can prove that it is not the hazard warning light swtich by the fact that if you start to actuate it all the bulbs will go out rather than staying on.

If a bulb is lower brightness than expected then this would indicate a bad eartn * although I wouldn't expect both sides to be affected)

For those people that are not aware, flasher units are designed to flasher quicker should a bulb fail

so this isnt a rare problem..mine had that problem too except they went throu like a phase of flashing properly, then progressively slower, then strobe effect...then dead. Had the flasher unit replaced 3 times, touch wood this latest ones sorted the problem.
