1984 Mini 25.
Replaced the off side rear wheel yesterday with a pepper pot rover alloy (standard 12"), it previously had the standard steel rim and three alloys due to a problem loosening the nuts on the last wheel, it was driven like that (3 alloy, 1 steel) to a garage with no problems, garage loosened the nuts and I drove home no problem, swapped the wheel myself & since it has developed a kncoking noise, sounds like it is coming from the rear off side, but nothing is obviously wrong, 1 point, the car came down a bit heavy from the jack, but I can't see anything broken, any ideas ?
Thanks, Paul.

Bit of an obvious reply, try to tighten the wheel nuts. If they are not properly tightened the wheel will make a knocking noise as it moves on the hub.
Jack the car up first and try to tighten the nuts with the wheel off the ground.

Thanks, I thought this could be the problem, I have tightenend as much as I can using a standard wheel wrench and am worried about breaking the bolts, the other 3 wheel bolts are not so tight and seem ok, but like I said, this one was really tight, so possibly there was s similar problem previously, I will try replacing and tightening the bolts.

dont overtighten them too much otherwise you will break the stud.

Wheel nuts should be torqued up to 40-45 lbft (5.5-6.2 kgm) which is not that tight at all really.
While you have it jacked up let off the handbrake (making sure you've chocked the wheels) and spin the wheel by hand. This may help you to find the source of the knocking if it is from that wheel, but it is not guaranteed to work as the suspension bits etc on that side will be different when the wheel is off the floor.
You could also have a peek underneath to see if you can see any shiny or clean bits of metal that might indicate where the problem lies. Don't get under the car though unless you put it on axle stands first
