I got my clubman for free but the previous owner didn't know much about cars. She tried to explain that the car has a 1275 head but on a 1000 block???? Is this possible I'm not a mini guy myself.....well not yet anyway. Just learning for now. Thanks

it is possible, you either need to use a cam of low lift, or have the edge of the bores machined out to miss the valves.

Mini13,

Could an 1100 do it instead? I thought all A and A+ engines were the same? I'm so confused. LOL

For Clarity
A series engines fall into 2 distinct groups

Small bore -997, 850, 998(1000), 1098(1100)
Large Bore -970, 1071, 1275,

In order to fit a large bore head to a small bore block you will need to do/have done 1 of the following:

Picked a camshaft with a lift of less than the depth of the chamber in the head.
Pocketed the top of the block
recessed the valves into the head

The easy way to check is to remove the rocker cover and check the head number.
If it is a large bore head it will have a number in the center of the casting, 12G940,
If its a small bore head the numer should be in the back left corner , 12g202 ( correct for the 1100) or CAM4810 ( correct for the 998, If you have a number in the middle 12g295 or 12g206 then its a performance small bore head from the cooper era.
