Anyone got any tips on how to drill them out??

The grub screws on the height adjusters on my rear coil overs have rusted in and been rounded off too. I tired drilling them out but they are hardened and my drill hardly touched them. :) :)

I need to get them out so I can strip the shocks down and give them a service...

do you have a torx set?
if yes then you can sometimes hammer one just over the right size into the rounded socket head of the grub screw.
use somekind of penetrating oil WD45 works well to help, might need to leave it for a while and then respray some more onto the grub screw, it helps to loosen it.

question) is the any of the grub screw pretruding out of the hole?

All the coil overs I ever use have a pair of locking rings to adjust the height.

Can't you just cut off the adjuster and buy new ones?

Any chance of a photo?

flush is good, we can work with flush.
you need your mig welder, a washer( the same size as the grub screw) a nut and a pair of pliers.
to start with fill the grub screw hole with a weld from your mig welder, use a high setting to get heat penetration,
place a washer the wider the better over the grub screw and weld the washer to the grub screw, then weld a nut onto the washer.
you can now use a spanner to undo the nut, bringing out the grub screw with it. i have used this method on loads of occasions and it works 90% of the time :)

That might not be a very good idea on a shocker, remember its full of oil or gas and could explode!!!!!!!

thats why you use a mig welder, quick heat penetration only where needed, so the whole thing don't get over heated.

i thought it was his height adjusters not shock's which had the grub screw?

It is the height adjuster, but I have coil overs and the adjuster screws up and down the outside of the shocker. Think I might take it to my local engineers and get them to deal with it, I can get it drilled out then tapped to a larger size for a new screw.

Why is nothin ever simple!

have you tried easy outs?, i use them all the time in work and can get all but the most stubborn screw out, failing that, i'd go with cutting off of the adjuster ring, it'll probably work out the same as paying an engineering firm to remove the old ones and re-tap the holes.
