Yup, welcome to the world of the aftermarket steering wheel! If you turn your old standard wheel over you will notice two lugs that protrude out of the bottom of the centre/boss, these trigger the indicators to cancel when the wheel is turned back. The boss kit from your new after market steering wheel will not have them as standard and therefore the indicators will not cancel unless you do it manualy, which is why you see so many minis driving along for miles with an indicator flashing that the driver has forgotten to cancel (mine included!!). I believe that some boss kits have holes drilled in the underside of the boss so that pins/lugs can be fitted to trigger the indicator cancel mechanism in the top of the steering column

My old mini 1000 used to do that, and it had the standard steering wheel. The flashers didn't flash either so i had to flash the indicators manualy :D i loved that mini

As stated, after market ones should have some holes in the back of the boss which you fit some split pins to which will then turn the cancelling collar. I forgot to fit mine when i did my new sterring wheel but i'll be resolving that this week!

So it is possible to get them working again you just have fit some extra parts to the boss?

yup! Take the wheel off again and turn it over, you should see a few holes in the boss on the back. Fit some split pins or dowls into these holes (don't knock them too far in though) then when you put it back on make sure that the pin you just fitted is inbetween the gap in the white collar that s on the column. it should then catch this collar as you move it left and right turning it in the process. this should then cancel your indicators :D
