recieved my jonspeed supercharger pulley today and i fitted it onto the crank i have got around 5mm gap between the pulley and the engine mount,
so i got a few questions

1) will the sensor pick up the teeth notches in the trigger wheel if it is around 4-5mm thick
2) i know i need a 36-1 pulley but i cant find the thread of how to fix them onto pulleys for example the angle they need to be fixed on

edit: 3) and what diameter do i need

If I understand you correctly you’re considering mounting the trigger wheel on the outside edge of the pulley. This is possible but when I looked at this position for my wheel on a standard crankshaft pulley it meant that replacing the fan belt would require the engine mount and therefore radiator to be removed. That’s not too bad as a service thing but no fun at the side of the road. I mounted my trigger wheel on the inside edge of the crank pulley after removing the thin steel plate that is normally attached to the inner side. If there is room to mount the trigger wheel on the inside edge of the Jonspeed pulley this might be a better location.

Positioning of the missing tooth relative to the crank pulley and TDC purely depends on the location of the VR sensor. The missing tooth must pass the VR sensor 90 degrees before the engine reaches TDC, the second photo shows the engine at TDC and you can see the missing tooth. The wheel was fixed with 6 M4 stainless screws straight into the pulley but spaced away from the pulley 4mm so the VR sensor clears the fan belt. 5mm thickness should work fine as long as you position the VR sensor as close as possible to the wheel. Diameter is a personal choice, mine came from an ebay site and is just slightly bigger than the pulley itself.

just found this

http://cgi.ebay.co.u...sid=p2759.l1259

looks like it will fit between the timing case and the pulley as well as being adjustable you can get a more accurate degree

i will now be fitting the trigger wheel on the inside as there is more then enough room so now i just got to find one that will work, will also try and sort out a bracket like yours

thanks for your help mate

Aye but it sounds like it's designed for situations where the pulley's mounted with 4 bolts.

The hole in the centre looks quite small as well. I bought one of These. You need to check the maximum size for a wheel mounted behind the pulley incase it fouls the timing mark fingers (?) and the bulge in the timing chain cover (I believe dual chain cover only). 4.5" was just a tiny bit too small but I turned down the rear edge of the V belt groove on a lathe just a mm so the trigger wheel was proud by 0.5mm.

The bracket is home made but is fairly rigid,

I fired the engine up for the first time on Saturday after a full re-build. Running just on the Ford components in limp home mode with no MJL it starts and runs up to 2,000 rpm or so very nicely.

The wheel needs to be the same size or slightly bigger than the pulley, or if smaller spaced away from the pulley far enough so the VR sensor will clear the pulley. What diameter is the pulley you have? I think some people will make a custom sized trigger wheel but I guess that'll cost more.

If the wheel is mounted on the front of the pulley sizing is less problematical but you then have the problem with the fan belt.
