Came across this product on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.u...em=300460507644

It's a new one on me. Has anyone else come across it? Does it work?

Clearly it's not going to solve problems in an auto box over the long term but, given the high cost of most auto box repairs, it could be a useful short-term solution.

I don't actually need it at the moment - I'm just curious.

No...

Do not put ANY additive in a mini auto box, basically because any product like this is designed to be used in an auto box which is separate from the engine, therefore is designed to be used with ATF and not engine oil. And likewise any engine oil additive will not be designed to be used in a gearbox.

First thought would be an issue with the selector rather than the gearbox, however, best person to talk to regarding Auto's is Martin @ MRA-Minis

I always thought that too. But this item is listed as being for a Mini. I guess you always have to be careful what you read on Ebay.

Well technically it says MINI which could well imply the BMW MINI....

I'm sorry but anything which stops oil leaks has to do it by bunging up the hole with something, this could mean it has something in it which sets or seals... is this something you want floating about your oil ways ?

hi

I've discussed this with martin/mra previously but i use slick 50 in my 1275 auto with no ill effects.
I think the extra lubrication is not a great enough effect to change the performance of the box. however it does quieten down the engine a little.
i've also bunged wynns stop leak in before. but i do not think this does anything more then thicken up to oil IMO. (and i changed the oil after 6 months)

I thought I'd check with the Ebay vendor about his claim that it is for a Mini/MINI. And (surprise, surprise) I got no response! So I emailed the manufacturer and got an interesting response from them:

"The Tfix is not suitable for your mini transmission, you would be better off with the oil stabilizer part number 10001.

That would help if it is the band seals that have worn"

This is the stuff they are referring to: http://www.lucasoil....g...&product=12

hhhmmm...

with an auto look to change the oil every 6 months. i've been doing that for the last 3 years and have had no problems.
because of that you don't want to spend to much on additives as you're chucking the oil so often.(i got my slick free :))
imo you're better off finding a oil that suits your car and changing it more often.
